Travis Outlaw Shines in Clipper Debut

The Portland Trail Blazers traded away their longest tenured player - Travis Outlaw - to the Los Angeles Clippers a week ago. Today he made his debut.

Outlaw got injured early in the season, and hadn't played for the Blazers since November 14 of 2009. Portland had to address the center position, and thus decided to trade Outlaw and Steve Blake in exchange for Marcus Camby. And with both Nicolas Batum and Martell Webster healthy and sharing significant minutes at the SF spot, the Blazers really wouldn't have found much time for Outlaw on the court.

So off to Los Angeles for Travis. And tonight he played the first professional game of his career for a team not named the Portland Trail Blazers.

Outlaw played in 16 minutes, scoring 10 points on 4-6 shooting, including 2-3 from beyond the arc Monday night in a 98-94 win over the Charlotte Bobcats. As he continues to get in shape and mesh with his new teammates, expect Outlaw to be a huge contributor for the Clippers for the remainder of the season.

Portland GM Kevin Pritchard hasn't tipped his hand to the media yet regarding whether or not the Blazers will make a push to bring Outlaw back in the upcoming off-season. Outlaw was always one of the most well-liked guys in the Blazer locker room over the past six seasons, and Portland certainly feels as though Outlaw is one of their own sons. He was drafted out of high school and played every game of his career with the Blazers up until tonight's game with the Clippers.

Steve Blake also played 16 minutes off the bench for Los Angeles tonight, scoring 3 points with 7 assists, 3 rebounds and no turnovers.
