Travis Marquez Outlaw was born September 18, 1984 in Starkville, Mississippi.

 

High School Notes:

  • Named to PARADE All-America High School Boys Basketball Second Team.
  • Named to USA Today High School Boys Basketball All-USA Third Team.
  • Named a 2003 McDonald’s High School All-America player and played in the McDonald’s High School All-American Game.
  • Played in the 2003 EA Sports Roundball Classic.
  • Named All-State his final three high school seasons in Mississippi.
  • Originally committed to Mississippi State.

 

NBA Career:

Travis entered the 2003 NBA Draft directly out of High School and was a first-round selection (23rd overall) by the Trail Blazers. He has averaged 9.6 points on 44.2% field goal shooting and 3.2 rebounds per game during his six years in the NBA.

In the 2005 Las Vegas Summer League, Outlaw averaged 18.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in 35.5 minutes. The performance earned him First Team All-RVSL honors. Following the summer league, several teams offered to trade for Outlaw in exchange for a first-round draft pick. Portland Trail Blazers director of player personnel Kevin Pritchard has said that Travis is "...going to be with us for a long time. I feel comfortable enough to say he's going to be a special player."

On April 18, 2007, Outlaw set a new career-high with 36 points against the Golden State Warriors. He became a restricted free agent on July 1, 2007, and signed a three-year contract extension on July 17.

Travis helped the Trail Blazers to a 54-28 record and a Playoff berth in ‘08-’09. It was the team’s first playoff appearance since the ’02-’03 season. Travis improved his jumper and scored at least 20 points in 9 games on his way to Fourth place in the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year voting.
