STARKVILLE -- The largest crowd on record packed McKee Park Saturday for the city of Starkville's sixth annual Travis Outlaw Day.
Outlaw, the former Starkville High School basketball star who now plays for the New Jersey Nets, was on hand as between 1,500 and 1,800 people turned out for food, games, prizes and more than a half-dozen competitions, said Markeeta Outlaw, Travis' mother.

Giving back to the community has always been a priority for Travis Outlaw. Each offseason, the former Starkville High School basketball player returns home to encourage and make a difference. Outlaw, who just signed a contract to join the New Jersey Nets this summer, celebrated the move by helping a city youth all-star team be able to attend the Dizzy Dean World Series.

It has been quiet on the free agency front for about a week now and I think that it is safe to say that the Nets are going to hold off signing anymore players this offseason (a trade is another story, but we aren’t talking about that right now). What that means is we can now look at the four free agents that the Nets brought in and look at what they can do well, and more importantly, how that fits into the Nets’ system.
